Butterflysoulfire

January 29, 2010

Last week I went to Butterflysoulfire´s  new boutique in Mulackstr.11 for their shared showroom fashion week special to see their new collections and the pieces of blackmeans, a leather brand from Tokyo which is mostly unknown in Europe but reached quite a cult status in Japan. The leather designers from blackmeans are usually working for the European and American Couture , but are now starting their own brand and want to see how its gonna work on the European market.

But first things first: I got to know Thoas Lindner and Maria Thomas , the creatives behind Butterflysoulfire , when I got to pick up samples from their studio for a shooting. From the first second it was crystal-clear  that both designers really embody Butterflysoulfire and dont seem to make compromises when it comes to market and mainstream. They describe their fashion as natural and elegant, nonchalant and modern. I would add avant-garde, dark, with big-knits and see-through dresses, all very organic looking (but in a cool kind of way). Their success proves them right !

PS.: There is an editorial with a beautiful butterflysoulfire dress in the new issue of Madame.

As I am not able to read Japanese, it is really hard to get your hands on press stuff from BLACKMEANS. They gave me something like a promo CD, but unfortunately there is not much photo material on it. Nevertheless, I`ll try to collect some more about the three designers who have their roots in Japanes punk culture and gonna let you know about it.
